Convocation kicks off year
By Christopher SilberholzThe University of Maryland, Baltimore County officially began the college careers of the incoming freshman class with the annual convocation ceremony. The ceremony began, as is tradition, next to the pond outside the library. Students walked toward the RAC passing two lines of approximately 150 faculty members, who stood resplendent in academic regalia. The freshmen proceeded into the RAC as the UMBC Pep Band played in the background. Young adults and teenagers are often more affected by this stigma.According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), there are 5,000 people under the age of 21 who die as a result of underage drinking every year. Underage drinkers tend to binge drink, as defined as a BAC above .08, more often than drinkers of a legal age. This puts them at greater risk of an alcohol overdose. Two wonderful things free hot dogs and copious amounts of water united to form the ultimate day of fun. The waterpark was comprised of two blue, gigantic, air-filled water slides, an arsenal of water guns and an inflated maze to use them in, a dunking booth, innumerable adorable, inflatable creatures lying in the grass, and hundreds of free hot dogs.There were two slides from which to choose: one, labeled Scrub-A-Dub Kid Scrub, featured the highest peak and the longest line, and the ...
